Jason Putnam Gordon is the founder of Putnam Gordon, P.C. He is a corporate and securities attorney, and he represents startups and middle-market companies in financings, mergers and acquisitions, entity formation, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and other commercial transactions. Jason has also served as counsel to some of the largest technology companies including Google, Netflix, and RealNetworks.
Before forming Putnam Gordon, P.C. and moving to a transactional practice, Jason was an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, P.C. (“WSGR”) where he focused on civil litigation. During his time there, Jason litigated antitrust, intellectual property, complex-commercial, securities, and post-merger-dispute cases. Jason also participated in arbitration and mediation proceedings on behalf of clients.
Prior to joining WSGR, Jason served as a law clerk for the Honorable James Knoll Gardner, a United States District Court Judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. During his two-year clerkship, Jason’s caseload included both civil and criminal cases. Because of the wide range of subject matter before the United States District Court, Jason’s civil cases ran the gamut from business disputes, to class actions, to civil-rights claims, to patent disputes.
While in law school, Jason had several internships. He externed at the Philadelphia-based law firm of Pepper Hamilton, LP in Pepper’s Berwyn-office startup group. At Pepper Hamilton, Jason worked on forming business entities and the financing securities to fund them. Additionally, he interned at the District Attorney’s Office in West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he represented the Commonwealth during criminal preliminary hearings. Jason also externed at the appellate mediation program for the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. While working in the appellate mediation program, Jason instituted the first mock mediation for the interns.
Education and Teaching Positions
Jason earned his law degree magna cum laude from Villanova University School of Law outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While in law school, Jason was on the board for Villanova’s moot court team. Jason has taught business law at U.C. Berkeley Extension. Jason has also served as a Supervising Attorney with Startup Legal Garage at the Institute for Innovation Law at Hasting College of Law.
Although Jason practices exclusively in California, he has been admitted to practice in the following jurisdictions:
- the District of Columbia;
- New Jersey; and
Jason is a member of the following bar associations:
- American Bar Association; and
- Bar Association of San Francisco
In his spare time, Jason’s passion is skydiving. He skydives and flies in vertical wind tunnels regularly. With an expert-level skydiving license, his passion has taken him all over the United States and internationally to Australia and Nicaragua. He serves on the board of the United States Parachute Association.
